— ROLE

Design & Animation

A kinetic-typography driven commercial for Slinky, with the constraint of using the original audio jingle.

The second I heard it, the second I had the idea of a moving slinky driving the narrative of the piece.

The designs are hugely inspired by slinky boxes from the 1970s.

I gathered a handful of packaging for the Styleboard and picked one box to base my design frames on.

Storyboard Pro has tons of tools for handling shape tools, composition, and animatic editing. With little time to board, using it was a no-brainer.

Key to making the slinky work was using Harmony instead of After Effects. Harmony’s vector based deformer system lets you manipulate parts of an image without over-warping others. So you get a ton of flexibility.

Everything except the slinky was animated in After Effects. I could have animated all type and camera movements in Harmony, but I really wanted to get some After Effects practice in.
