Design & Animation

Using simple, abstract shapes and ever-changing speed to convey the

highs and lows of being playful and lazy.

This started with a track from a Super Mario rom hack for the SNES that I fell in love with.

So I built the entire project around moods the song made me feel.

Ariel Costa, Nol Honig, and a few pieces from Ordinary Folk really gave me some insights in how to make abstract shapes feel unique and colorful.

I used an open source app called Storyboarder to make quick boards. Then I exported them into Premiere and timed them to make an animatic. Its not intuitive as using an app like Storyboard Pro.

I’m very passionate on planning ahead. Making animatics allows me to carefully choreograph animations like this, where the three waves turn into a Big Square

All shapes were made in After Effects and wave warps are the star of the show. In order to move shapes freely without changing curvature between frames, many had to be precomped.
